Which paper towel absorbs the most water?

Today we did an experiment on which paper towel absorbed the most water. They did awesome!! I know it's only the 8th day of school, but I have a feeling this is going to be an amazing year in science. Each group got 3 sheets of each different paper towels (we used 3 different brands). They were then to pour 100 ml of water into a cup, dip the paper towel in and remove, and then measure and record how much water was left in the cup. 

We are really working on the steps of the scientific method. We also reviewed the independent variable (the 1 thing we changed..brand of paper towel) and the dependent variable (the data we collected..how much water was left in the cup). Tomorrow we tackle what a control group is!!

First Week Down!!

The first week of school is over!! The kids have done great and are learning the rituals and routines of my classroom. I'm definitely excited about this school year!!

We have a lot of testing coming up these next few weeks, so it's very important that our students are at school on time and everyday.

Welcome Back!!!

Welcome to my 5th grade blog!!! This is a page where I will post about science investigations we do, pictures of charts, and any news we have to share. There are a lot of forms that your child was sent home with today. Please fill out all of them and return them ASAP!!

In those forms, I also sent a blog consent form. In order for your child's picture and work to be posted here, that form will need to be returned. I don't use last names...just first!!

Getting Ready....

I made these sports lanterns to hang outside my classroom (all but the football.) I bought 2 white lanterns and 1 orange lantern. I got some red and black pipe cleaners and went to work!! A few hours and burnt fingers later, I had my lanterns!! I still need to make the soccer ball (all I need to do is cut out some red hexagons or maybe black and then glue them). I love them!!!

Almost That Time!!

School is just around the corner!! Parents, if you need to get our supply list, you can pick it up at school. I am going to work on getting one so I can post it here :)
